REMO is bringing something completely different to the grid in 2026 with the launch of the REMO Super Formula Challenge on iRacing.
Eight rounds. Eight demanding circuits. One of the fastest and most challenging single-seater cars available on the platform. The Super Formula SF23 is coming to REMO...
Speed. Downforce. Push-to-Pass.
The SF23 isn't simply a faster league many REMO drivers are used to. It requires a completely different approach. Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine producing more than 550 horsepower, the SF23 combines huge power with the aerodynamic grip of a modern open-wheel car. iRacing describes it as a uniquely agile machine, and that combination of power, low weight and downforce makes it capable of attacking corners at speeds that simply aren't possible in a GT car. And that's where the challenge begins.
Learning to trust the downforce
One of the biggest adjustments for drivers coming from GT3 machinery will be learning how aggressively the SF23 can be driven.
The car generates substantial aerodynamic grip, meaning the faster you go, the more confidence you can build in the car through high-speed corners. But finding that limit takes time. Brake too early and you're leaving performance on the table. Carry too much speed and the car can quickly punish you. The challenge isn't simply driving fast, It's learning where the car wants you to be fast.
Tyre behaviour is another important part of getting the most from the SF23. iRacing's setup documentation highlights the relationship between tyre pressures, temperatures, loads and handling balance, meaning getting the car into its operating window can make a significant difference to how it behaves over a run. For new drivers, that learning curve will be one of the biggest parts of the championship.
And then you have the other 23 cars...
Driving a fast lap on your own is one thing. Doing it alongside another SF23 is something completely different.
The SF23's performance changes the way battles develop. With cars travelling at high speeds and carrying enormous cornering speed, small differences in braking points, throttle application and positioning can quickly turn into an opportunity. But that also means precision matters.
Open-wheel cars don't give you the same margin for contact as a GT3. A small mistake can have a much bigger consequence, and damaged aerodynamic components can significantly affect the car's performance. iRacing has specifically adjusted the SF23's damage model so that aerodynamic damage can result in a greater loss of downforce. That makes wheel-to-wheel racing incredibly rewarding but also demands respect between drivers.
Push-to-Pass changes the game
Then there's Push-to-Pass. The SF23 features an overtake system designed specifically to create more opportunities for racing, with iRacing modelling up to 200 seconds of additional fuel burn available through the system during a race.
Used at the right moment, it can turn a small gap into a genuine attacking opportunity.
But using it isn't simply a case of pressing a button whenever you're behind another car. Do you use it to defend? Save it for the final laps? Attack into the next braking zone? Or use it earlier in the lap to get close enough to make the move possible later?
That adds another layer of strategy to what is already an extremely fast car.
The starts will be intense
Every round will feature a standing start, putting the spotlight on the drivers from the moment the lights go out and iRacing has recently updated the SF23's clutch modelling and launch behaviour, with drivers encouraged to use first gear for realistic starts.
With up to 24 cars launching together, the opening lap could be one of the most important and most chaotic parts of every race. Get away cleanly, find your rhythm and start building your race. Get it wrong, and the championship could be over before the first corner.
Eight rounds. Eight challenges.
The championship begins on Friday, October 16th 2026, with racing every Friday across a calendar designed to test every part of a driver's ability.
Daytona International Speedway
Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
Autodromo Nazionale Monza
Miami
Suzuka International Racing Course
Circuit Park Zandvoort
HockenheimRing
Red Bull Ring
From the flat-out sections of Daytona, Spa and Monza to the technical demands of Suzuka and Zandvoort, every round will ask something different of the driver.
The format
Every Friday night will feature:
45 Minutes – Practice
15 Minutes – Qualifying
35 Minutes – Race
With only 15 minutes of qualifying, drivers will have to make their preparation count. There won't be hours to find the perfect lap before the grid is set.
Then comes the race. 35 minutes of high-speed, wheel-to-wheel Super Formula racing.
A new challenge for REMO
The Super Formula Challenge is designed to give the REMO community something different. If you're coming from GT3, you'll have to rethink how you drive. If you're already comfortable with single-seaters, you'll have to master the SF23 and if you've never driven one before, there's a steep learning curve waiting for you.
But that's the appeal.
The SF23 rewards commitment, precision and consistency. It is a car that can feel incredibly fast once you understand it and incredibly difficult when you don't.
That's the challenge.
Registration is OPEN
The REMO Super Formula Challenge 2026 is now open for registration, with the grid limited to 24 drivers. Choose your manufacturer. Honda or Toyota. Learn the car. Master the circuits. Understand the Push-to-Pass system. Then line up on the grid and see how you compare when there are another 23 drivers fighting for the same piece of track.
Important: The REMO Super Formula Challenge uses the full Super Formula SF23 Honda and Toyota. Super Formula Lites are not part of this championship.
